DC Lobbying Trip Goals and Suggestions. Members from YOSE, SEKI, and SAGU will lobby in Washington D.C. from June 21st to June 26th on behalf of NPS workers. What will they lobby for?

  • RANGER ACT: Restoring American Natural Grandeur and Empowering Rangers. This proposal requests that 25% of the seasonal NPS workforce be converted to permanent positions to better serve the American public, retain institutional knowledge, improve government efficiency, and provide access to long-term benefits such as pensions and retirement. The proposed legislation has the written support of Chuck Sams, the 19th director of the NPS.
  • Fully fund the National Park Service and oppose the proposed FY2027 736 million budget cut. Members will also emphasize that the NPS is one of the most bipartisanly favored agencies, according to the Pew Research Center.
  • Fill critical job vacancies and return the hiring decision-making authority to the park level.
  • Adjust locality pay to better reflect regional cost-of-living differences, making park positions more competitive and sustainable for employees.
  • Do you have any working condition concerns or broader issues you’d like to shared with the team? Email nffe.legislative@gmail.com.

We need your help!

In order to be sustainable long-term, we need more people to pitch in! Even if you have an extra hour a week, we could use additional support. Reply to this email if you’d like to help! Here are our highest priority needs:

Flyer Maker– Spreading the good word of union events by making flyers (1-2 hours/ month). General Admin Support – Supports the VP with union tasks including note taking, following up with people, email inbox management, and note-taking (2 hrs/week).

Stewards – Attends training and advocates for the rights of fellow workers. Serves as a Union point person when workplace issues arise. We currently have one trained SEKI steward!

Legislative Committee Member – Helps represent SEKI and makes sure that our Parks’ priorities are getting taken to people in power, including by lobbying Congress.(1 hour/ week)

Elections Committee Member – Help coordinate and facilitate the upcoming NFFE 465 officers election. In order to hold elections for officer positions, we need a minimum of 3 people on this committee.

Officers – NFFE 465 elections are coming up soon and will need people to run for office. If you’re interested in stepping into a leadership role, stay tuned for more information and/or ask a member of the interim board for more details. We’d like at least two people from SEKI serving on the board.

Interested in other committees? Check out this form.
